About

A couple of years ago, I watched a minister struggle with worship music. Our tiny congregation didn’t have a music leader, so he attempted to play hymns through the sound system using his phone. It didn’t go well.

The hymns faded in an out. Feedback screeched several times. Placing the microphone properly was almost impossible. At that moment I knew I could help. Thus was born the idea for “Hymn Commons.”

For the next year I used the open source music scoring program, Musescore, to transcribe public domain hymns into PDFs for scores, MP3s for audio files and the original Musescore files so Christians anywhere could change the arrangements. That is what you see today, with one more addition: PowerPoint.

I wanted Christians everywhere to not fear copyright lawsuits. That’s why everything is public domain. That includes the PowerPoint images. Every single one was generated by Microsoft CoPilot. Therefore, there is no copyright restriction nor model release requirements.

If I’m a bit slow posting new content, it’s because this is a one person project. I’m retired now and have a little more time, but do stay busy with requests from my wife.

Do you find ads annoying? Me to. How about ‘pop-ups’? I feel likewise. Subscriptions? Irritating. Paywalls? Aggravating. That’s why you find none of that on the site. Simply, free, public domain hymns.

As a fellow believer in Christ, this is my offering to Him. And it is a joy to serve Him and you. Feel free to say a few words if you find the site a blessing.
